Requirements, application & selection

For our full-time, integrated programs, aspiring pilots are required to pass an application & selection process consisting of online testing, group exercises and interviews. The process is designed to assess the core competencies and skills required to become a trainee, Co-Pilot, future Captain and beyond.

Entry criteria – United Kingdom

The following entry criteria applies to applicants applying for L3 Airline Academy’s Integrated ATPL career program. Airline MPL routes vary so please check before you apply.

AGE AND HEIGHT

Be at least 17 years of age to submit an application.
 
Be at least 18 years of age to commence commercial pilot training (program dependent).

Minimum height 5 ft. 2 in. (157 cm), maximum height 6 ft. 3 in. (191 cm).i

EDUCATION AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Hold a minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalenti) in different subjects at grade C or above, which must include Mathematics, Science and English language.

Be able to demonstrate that you have successfully completed secondary or high school education (or equivalent).

Be fluent in English (verbal and written).i



MEDICAL

Be able to obtain an EASA Class 1 Medical without restrictions.

CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK

Produce a criminal record check (CRC) basic disclosure certificate before training can commence.

VISAS

Have the unrestricted right to live and work in the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland.

SELECTION

Pass an application and selection process.

Entry criteria – Europe

The following entry criteria applies to applicants applying to L3's European Airline Academy.

AGE

Be at least 16 years old when flying solo for the first time at the Academy.

Be at least 18 years old at the time the pilot license is issued.



EDUCATION AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Hold an high school degree certificate or equivalent.

English, Physics and Mathematics knowledge oral and written English exam.

MEDICAL

Hold a Class 1 Medical certificate (CIMA).

VISAS

Have the unrestricted right to live and work in the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland.

Entry criteria – United States

The following entry criteria applies to applicants applying for FAA pilot training at L3's Florida Airline Academy in Sanford.

AGE

All applicants must be at least 17 year and 6 months old at the start of their program.

EDUCATION AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Applicant must meet 1 of the 3 following requirements:

  1. Received high school diploma – evidence of a cumulative GPA of 2.5
  2. High school transcript required of received GED – evidence of completed 24 college credit hours from an accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  3. College transcript required Private Pilot's Certificate with verification of high school diploma or GED
MEDICAL

Photocopy of an FAA Medical Certificate.i

CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK

VISAS

United States Citizens: (including individuals from D.C., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Northern Mariana Island, American Samoa, and Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Island):

    • Valid U.S. passport or passport card
    • And Certificate of Birth Abroad (if applicable)
    • And Certificate of Naturalization (if applicable)

      OR – Any two of the following:
    • State issued Birth Certificate
    • Unexpired government issued photo ID
    • U.S. Military ID Card
    • Native American Tribal Card

      Permanent residents:
    • Valid international passport
    • And unexpired Permanent Resident Card

A course-by-course transcript evaluation is required for any applicant who attended high school outside of the United States. If the applicant's transcript is printed in any language other than English, please submit a copy of the original document as well as a translated copy. Ask your Admissions Officer for a list of translation and/or evaluation companies.
