New Zealand Diploma in Aviation Flight Instructor Program

New Zealand has a prerequisite of experience before applying, therefore as an Instructor you are earning a salary and building hours rapidly in time for the airlines.

You will graduate with:

  • Private Pilot License (PPL)
  • Commercial Pilot License (CPL)
  • Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR)
  • C Category Flight Instructor Rating
  • New Zealand Diploma in Aviation (Airplane) (FI Level 6)
Entry criteria

Our graduates are considered to be among the best in the industry – it all begins with rigorous selection.

Age

17 years of age at the date of application.

Education and English language

Achieve NCEA Level 3 overall.
NCEA Level 2, 12 or more credits in English, Mathematics and Science – ideally physics.

Or

Passed PPL theory subjects.

Medical

Hold a New Zealand CAA Class 1 Medical Certificate (prior to commencement of training).

Visa

Have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
Be fluent in English (verbal and written)*.

Consent to a criminal record check.

In support of your application you will need to provide a criminal record and driving record which can take up to 8 weeks to obtain. Once you receive these documents please colour scan these to pilotcareersnz.cts@L3Harris.com and request for these to be added to your file by using your application ID number for the team to correctly identify you. Your medical is due prior to commencement of training, however for information on the requirements of obtaining a New Zealand CAA class 1 medical please refer to http://www.caa.govt.nz/medical/medical-home/.

For non-native English speakers, you will be required to present a certificate prior to training commencement demonstrating you have achieved International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or an equivalent of at Level 5.5 overall, with no less than 5.5 in any individual area (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking). This must be the Academic test, not General Training.

Any non-native English speakers will need to undertake an assessment at a CAA approved ELP Testing Organisation (see CAA Standards Document No. 31) for a formal assessment of their English language Proficiency level prior to license issue.

Your application will be screened by our selection team who will contact you if you pass our screening.

If your application is successful, you will be invited to attend an assessment day at a cost of NZ$295.

Interview

For those who pass the initial phase, the afternoon of your assessment day involves a mini-lesson and an interview with our selection team.

Cost and funding

Total NZ$138,250 (including GST) funding includes:

  • NZ$75,250 – Student Loan or personal funding
  • NZ$23,000 – Personal funding (payable in four instalments over 12 months)
  • NZ$40,000 – Sponsorship funding from L3Harris Airline Academy New Zealand

Additional fees

  • NZ$280 + GST per week – optional accommodation excluding food and transport
  • NZ$295 – Selection fee
