5 Reasons Why - I'm training to become a commercial pilot

by Olivia Clarke on Nov 03 2020

Hi there! My name is Olivia Clarke, I’m 23 and I’m a ATPL cadet with female scholarship. I started my training with L3Harris after finishing my PPL in the summer of 2019.

Here are my 5 reasons why I’m training to become a commercial pilot:

1. Ultimately I love flying! Who doesn’t? I want to be in a job that I love, as the saying goes “choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

2. Varied lifestyle - travelling is a real love of mine and I’m excited to visit new places, new cultures and meet lots of people. No two days will ever be the same and that’s what attracts me to it. I want a career where I can keep learning, keep testing myself and ultimately strive to be the best possible version of me.

3. Another female inspired me, whilst I was travelling funnily enough. I hope to do the same and motivate, inspire and pass on the flying bug to both women and men who aspire to choose this as a career. I encourage anyone looking for a career in aviation to reach out on social media or head to the next open day/zoom call whatever it may be and get involved. YOU are the one that has to make it happen at the end of the day, and we are all here to support each other in our journeys.

4. I chose to apply at the time as pilot demand was at an all-time high, unfortunately COVID has decided otherwise on this, but the industry will recover with time. We just have to be patient, stay positive and keep focused.

5. I wanted a more rewarding job compared to my previous, something I could train for, to feel a sense of pride and greatness.
