by L3 Airline Academy on Apr 10 2019
What is it really like learning to fly at L3’s Florida Airline Academy? (We can tell you now – it’s great!)

Location & area
Choosing Florida as your flight school destination is a smart decision! We are located at the Orlando Sanford International Airport in the heart of beautiful Central Florida, just minutes away from stunning beaches, theme parks and with easy access to hundreds of local attractions.  Our campus is blessed with year-round sunshine providing our pilots with over 300 flyable days per year. There is nothing more frustrating than having a flying lesson cancelled due to poor weather and the location of our Florida flight school mitigates that risk. There are many affordable housing options within an easy commute of the campus, making your daily routine simple and hassle-free.

Why L3?
There are plenty of flight schools in Florida, but at L3 Airline Academy we foster an airline culture from day one. We are focused on providing our cadets with the most relevant training to successfully join an airline as a Co-Pilot, rather than simply providing flying lessons.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires all pilots to build at least 1,500 flying hours before they are able to apply to work for an airline. A great way of building flight hours is by teaching others and that is why we guarantee all our cadets an interview for a role as a Certified Flight Instructor once their training is successfully complete. If successful and the necessary flight hours are built, over 90% of our cadets who become L3 Instructors go on to be placed with an airline.

As an L3 Airline Academy cadet you will have access to a wide range of technologies from across the entire L3 business. For instance, our training aircraft are equipped with L3 Avionics instruments, the same as you would find on most commercial aircraft. It is these advantages that can help you to seamlessly transition from cadet pilot to Commercial Pilot.

Scholarships & funding
Many of our cadets inquire about funding for their pilot training. L3 has numerous funding options, including Federal Financial Aid, scholarships, and private funding for those who qualify. We are committed to bringing talent to the flight deck, so if you have passed our selection process yet feel funding may be a barrier to your pilot training please get in touch with our Admissions Team or our Financial Aid Department who will talk you through the options available.

Welcoming you to our flight academy
Once you have successfully passed the selection process, we will do everything we can to make your transition to L3 Airline Academy cadet pilot as easy and fun as possible.

We can help you out with the practical side of preparing for your flight training; our dedicated Student Services team can help you find accommodation and advise you of public transport options to travel to and from the campus. Once training begins, you will have the opportunity to participate in student orientation activities to help you and your fellow cadets get to know one another.

Friendships
By joining the L3 Airline Academy in Florida, you will study alongside other aspiring pilots. If you choose to be interviewed to become a Certified Flight Instructor once you have successfully completed your course you will join a team of qualified, friendly professionals.

One of our instructors, Glenn Wallace, says, ‘It’s a rare thing to look forward to going to work because you enjoy the people you work with, and at L3 I’ve been lucky enough to experience that.’

How you will study
It is necessary for all cadets in our pilot training program to undertake classroom based ‘ground school’ and flight training with a qualified instructor. Depending on the course you may also be required to use our Flight Training Devices – the simulation tools we use to mimic real flight. These devices allow you to practice your pilot skills from the safety of the ground.

Our Professional Pilot Program is accredited by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) - the regulatory body for commercial pilot training in the United States.

Student activities
Learning to become a pilot is hard work! Here at L3 we strongly believe that our cadets should take time between studying to relax and unwind. We arrange lots of fun student activities including trips to local beaches and theme parks.

Course content
The majority of our cadets opt to study for the Professional Pilot Program – our flagship pilot training course. This course can be completed in as little as 15 months, subject to scheduling, and successful completion provides all the certificates and ratings required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to become a Certified Flight Instructor and a Commercial Pilot.
