Base Support Manager

L3 Technologies is a leading provider of a broad range of communication, electronic and sensor systems used on military, homeland security and commercial platforms. Electronics Systems (ES), is one of four L3 business segments, and provides a broad range of components, products, subsystems, systems and related services for military and commercial customers.

The role reports directly to the Operations Delivery Manager, part of one of the largest pilot training organisations in the world with academies in the UK, USA, New Zealand and Europe. The division is growing double digits in response to growing demand from airline customers around the world.

The Base Support Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of academy support including:

  • Customer liaison and support, and
  • Facilities management

 

Core duties will involve, but not be limited to:

  • Customer liaison and support for airline and trainee customers with a people focus and strong open and communicative manner.
  • Maintain positive and proactive communication with all trainees.
  • Where possible, resolve trainee and Flight Instructor (FI) queries on the ground
  • Be the frontline face of the academy and greet internal and external visitors
  • Health and Safety awareness such as first aid and fire marshal duties
  • Answering telephone calls and be the main point of contact
  • Work with the Training Support Administrator to produce pre-course training administration including the preparation of cadet files, ID badges, and airside passes as well as flight training equipment.
  • Coordinate and develop trainee and new instructor inductions and produce induction documents. Ensure all course material is prepared in advance and classrooms set up accordingly for the start of each cadet’s induction to the training centre.
  • Act as the point of contact for customer airline visits as follows:
  • Manage, communicate and coordinate visits to Bournemouth for Cadet Programme oversight.
  • Produce and manage the visit schedule, maximising their time in Bournemouth.
  • Ensure all documentation is up to date and the necessary staff involved are programmed where required.
  • Point of contact for day-to-day facilities management queries, liaising with third party suppliers such as CBRE to resolve any training centre issues.
  • Create and send customer feedback surveys to cadets finishing the Bournemouth phase of training. Accurately compile the graphs and identify trends from Trainee feedback for the UK Academy Management team.
  • Procurement of all stationery and office equipment for the Bournemouth Academy.
  • Complete other duties that may be reasonably required within the Team.
  • No more than 10% travel to other UK satellite sites including Southampton and Cranfield.       Any additional travel will be advised within reasonable notice.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

Qualifications and educational requirement:

Educated to GCSE English and Maths, Level A-C (or equivalent)

 

Skills and experience:

  • Proven managerial and administrative experience with success in handling a variety of tasks and/or activities concurrently
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office
  • Solid numeracy skills
  • Proactive approach with the ability to react quickly to unplanned scenarios
  • Demonstrate proven problem solving abilities
  • Able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
  • Professional telephone and written communication and presentation skills
  • Comfortable working in a diverse cultural environment
  • A “can do” attitude and able to operate in a high pressure business environment
  • Previous operational aviation training industry knowledge and experience would be an advantage.
