Flight Instructor Recruiter: UK & Europe - Southampton

Due to the continued growth of the business, we are looking to strengthen our UK and European Flight Instructor recruitment team and recruit a commercially-minded recruiter. This role will allow L3Harris to develop and grow relationships across our UK and European Academies to hire high calibre flight instructors as part of the 2020 growth plan.

Bringing with you a wealth of knowledge, you will have experience in the full lifecycle of recruitment and selection in a very competitive and niche market. You will work closely with the Airline Academy Directors, HR Business Partners and Operations Training Services Team and own complex high volume Flight Instructor recruitment numbers against the strategic plan. You will collaborate with UK and Europe stakeholders as well as with internal stakeholders, with a proven track record of delivering solid resourcing capabilities in a fast paced, aviation regulated training environment.

Primary purpose of the role:


  • Develop excellent relationships with Academy Directors and key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the client’s recruitment briefs, to ensure a robust recruitment process is implemented.
  • Marketing to attract Flight Instructors to the UK and Europe, managing the whole recruitment lifecycle from interviewing through to job offer negotiations.
  • Ensure you provide high level candidate care, as you take them through the recruitment process.
  • Complete a range of telephone screening and interviewing processes to ensure your clients receive the best candidates on the market.
  • Collate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) information.
  • Complete a range of recruitment admin duties.
  • Ensure all client information is accurately recorded onto the company database system.
  • Provide a high level of customer service at all times.
  • Develop and coach junior team members.

Core responsibilities will involve, but not be limited to:


  • Qualifying vacancies and updating or creating accurate job descriptions
  • Ensuring a smooth interview process including pre-screening candidates, arranging and conducting interviews, and providing feedback to all parties
  • Providing an excellent service to hiring managers and advising them on best strategies for their recruitment
  • Champion direct sourcing through advertising roles and selecting appropriate channels to source from including social media.
  • Providing meaningful statistics to enable business and board level decisions
  • Become an integral part of the business by understanding all department, pipelines, demand and varying priorities
  • Respond to all initial enquiries and applications in a polite and timely manner
  • Conduct initial screening to assess candidates suitability for the role and provide timely feedback
  • Conduct initial Skype interviews with overseas candidates and recommend where a face to face interview is required
  • Provide hiring recommendations to Academy Director, CFI and Head of Training.
  • Negotiate offer details with candidates in readiness for the Recruitment Co-ordinator to generate contracts
  • Continuously improve and innovate the candidate lifecycle by reviewing new methods of hiring candidates and keep up to date with technology, aviation industry and network opportunities such as Expo events and marketing.

  • Proven experience as a commercially-minded recruiter is essential.
  • Ability to source candidates using different media routes such as social media, headhunting and job boards
  • Able to screen, shortlist, interview and hire candidates.
  • Proven ability in delivering high volume candidate management
  • Ability to work independently with a positive motivation and drive to adapt to change quickly
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to convey information effectively in written and verbal form
  • Interpersonal skills to enable efficient and influential communication at all levels
  • Fully competent in the use of Microsoft Office, specifically Word Outlook and Excel
  • Proven organizational skills together with the ability to prioritize and use tact and judgement
  • Ability to manage high volume activities under tight time constraints
  • Proven ability to work accurately and pay meticulous attention to detail, even under pressure
  • Willingness and ability to respond flexibly to the needs of the post
  • Proven ability to provide the best quality service to external and internal customers
  • May be required to travel outside of the UK as part of the role
  • Demonstrable experience of the challenges of volume recruitment, preferably in the aviation industry
  • Recent experience in pro-actively managing a talent pipeline
  • Solid understanding and experience of the recruitment lifecycle
  • A qualification or applied skills in business, commercial or recruitment is an advantage
  • Experience of working with a diverse, multi-cultural workforce
