The post holder is required to promote, develop and maintain the highest standards of Global Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), and hold relevant experience in a corporate environment with a fluid understanding of the implications of HSE law, both in the UK and in the EU. You must be aware of industry best practice and relevant accrediting organizations such as CAA, HSE, BSI, NICEIC, BA, Boeing, and Airbus. With knowledge on current trends in health and safety and environmental policies you will have an ability to relate that to L3’s business strategies and operations, to strive at all times to maintain the Company’s image and reputation as a world-leading supplier.

Main responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, assess and alter safety procedures and policies for the benefit of employees and clients
  • Research and implement new health and safety processes
  • Analyse accident reports and records to evaluate existing procedural effectiveness
  • Prepare and conduct safety training sessions for employees and vendors
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (including HSE, EA)
  • Research environmental regulations and policies and institute changes to ensure compliance
  • Track incident metrics, trends and mitigations
  • Oversee the applications for and receipt of necessary permits from a central position
  • Manage injury and incident inquiries and investigations
  • Review operations and existing risk controls
  • Maintain and cultivate a master inventory of businesses policies, practices and processes
  • Improve customer care by initiating improvements to safety controls and auditing processes
  • Perform audits, investigation to identify vulnerabilities and areas of weakness.
  • Develop new audit programs to ensure adequate risk controls
  • Plan internal client meetings and oversee data disclosures
  • Make recommendations to environmental management from data obtained by software, policies and audit triggers
  • Create and update internal audit plan

Person specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree required (preferably in environmental health and safety) from a related discipline such as science, engineering, human factors, aviation safety
  • 6+ years’ experience in the a relevant field of safety management preferably from within the aviation or maintenance industry
  • Knowledge of HSE, EA, EASA and national standards with regard to facilities / aviation
  • Chartered Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) as a minimum
  • Ability to train, influence and motivate departments and managers
  • Ability to work in a high pressured and dynamic environment
  • A “can do” attitude and able to operate in a high pressure business environment
  • Provide organisational objectives and targets with reference to HS law and requirements.
  • Desire to reduce risks, limit injuries and adhere to specific standards (ISO, ILO, and National Authority).
