Hardware Engineering: Product Data Administrator - Crawley

Hardware Engineering consists of three pools - Electrical and Configuration Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; and Product Training and Technical Publications.

The Mechanical, Electrical and Configuration Engineering teams are responsible for designing and supporting our flight training products through manufacture, into service and beyond. This includes the production and management of manufacturing documentation and supporting meta-data that describes these designs and drives the procurement and production activities through our SAP MRP system.

The Product Training and Technical Publications team is responsible for providing training and documentation that enables our customers to operate and maintain their simulator devices for the lifetime of the product.

The primary purpose of this job as a Product Data Administrator is to work as part of the Electrical and Configuration Engineering team, managing and supplying engineering data and documentation that supports the delivery of our products and services to our customers – both externally and internally.

Strong communication and team working skills are essential, enabling you to work cross-functionally not only within the department but also across the company as the business demands.

Where necessary, the successful applicant will learn how to operate the various software programs that we use to manage our data, including: JIRA, Windchill, SAP, Océ and Chemwatch. Depending on the applicant’s experience, skills and aptitude, the role may include (or evolve to include) the business administration of some or all of these tools. They will also assist with and potentially lead activities relating to ongoing toolset and process maintenance and evolution, particularly as we further digitise and automate data delivery. Daily tasks will include data entry, validation, cleansing and electronic indexing/filing; data extraction and hard copy printing; business metrics generation and the management of outsourced printing services.

Core responsibilities will involve, but not be limited to:  

  • Production of data packs – printing, kit collation and delivery
  • Data pack and master data issue resolution
  • Hazardous materials data management – incl. Chemwatch
  • Proprietary part creation in Windchill / SAP
  • Windchill data management and potentially business administration of the system
  • Standard parts library management
  • Technical data sheet curation
  • British Standards library management
  • Printing of Maintenance Manuals, Qualification Test Guides, System Diagrams
  • Collation and archiving of data sheets delivered with parts per programme
  • Production of weekly Hardware Engineering metrics

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential skills and experience:

Competent in:

  • Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Outlook
  • Web browser based user interfaces

Preferably with prior experience in using one or more of the following:

  • A revision controlled, document management system – e.g. Océ
  • SAP - or another MRP system
  • Windchill - or another PLM system
  • JIRA

Other Skills / Abilities / Behaviours:

  • Experience, interest or appreciation for technical data
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills

Advantageous but non-essential prior experience may include:

  • PTC Windchill PLM Business Administration
  • Awareness of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) e.g. Oracle, SAP
  • Hazardous materials management, with an appreciation for CLP and Transport regulations
  • Import / export commodity codes for trade tariffs
  • Awareness of regulatory compliance issues - RoHS, REACH, WEE, PED etc.

Qualification and educational requirements:

  • Formal qualifications not essential, but considered advantageous.
  • Background in an engineering or technical field preferred.
  • Typically experience in data management.
