Senior Commercial Manager

Reports to: Head of Commercial

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To provide effective commercial management of the business, supporting the Head of Commercial with direction and leadership of the commercial team, as well as the provision of commercial knowledge and guidance to L3 personnel.

To ensure that the financial and commercial interests of the Company are optimised, contractual obligations are met, and associated risks are highlighted and actively managed.

Draft, review and oversee the commercial terms of bids, contracts and agreements, lead negotiations and ensure that stakeholders are informed of the terms of contract and made aware of the risks/opportunities identified therein.

Ensure that appropriate contractual governance is applied throughout the lifecycle of a contract (i.e. from proposal to termination/expiration).

Commercial policies and procedures shall be communicated and operated so as to achieve the goal of conducting business with integrity at all times.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

In some or all of the above capacities the Senior Commercial Manager will be required to:

  • Lead customer negotiations to successful conclusion (may include international travel).
  • Independently manage deliverables and consistently drive projects/contracts to successful conclusion
  • Play a key role in the development of the Commercial function, leveraging commercial experience to incorporate best practice and ensure commercial excellence is embedded across the organisation
  • Have excellent communication skills (verbal and written), and adapt to engage effectively with executives, senior management and team members of differing levels of seniority
  • Manage business exposure to commercial risk appropriately in both pre and post contract.
  • Own the commercial and contractual aspects of customer engagement whilst ensuring compliance with required corporate governance and approvals. Act as a focal point for customer correspondence, including but not limited to proposal reviews, post‐award engagements such as change orders, terminations, novation/name changes and other contract related matters;
  • Analyse and evaluate customer’s Request for Proposals or Tenders providing relevant input to stakeholders (programme management, engineering, quality, subcontracts, procurement, etc.);
  • Manage the pre and post contract commercial administration of customer contracts which may include management of risk, compliance, KPI drafting and maintenance, review of applications for payment, progress review meetings etc.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of relevant international laws and regulations
  • Provision of weekly/monthly commercial reports as necessary.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience of working with a variety of customers in varying jurisdictions.
  • General knowledge of the wider Civil Aerospace market.
  • IACCM membership or similar an advantage.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Educated to Degree level or equivalent in a Business or Law related subject and typically 10 years demonstrable working knowledge and first-hand experience of commercial management.
