Senior Specialist, Engineering Systems - Training Systems

Overview of the role: Responsible for development, implementation, maintenance of hardware engineering systems, processes and toolsets to optimise delivery and efficiency of the engineering processes and outputs. The role will require the ability to innovate and deliver change management projects across the sector function through engaging internal and external stakeholders to ensure robust implementation and realisation of improvements in cost, quality and schedule to engineering delivery.

Core responsibilities will involve, but not be limited to:

  • Refresh the hardware baseline management and change management processes ensuring effective cross-functional awareness, visibility, compatibility and adoption. Once established, provide maintenance oversight to ensure alignment with quarterly benchmarks and Sales / B&P activities.
  • Liaise with Product Management to align product roadmaps with baseline release schedules and generate technical requirement inputs for the Hardware Development team to execute.
  • Develop and obtain approval for business plans for projects and deploy across sector and business unit teams with SMART benefits realized to engineering KPIs on cost, quality and schedule.
  • Support the development and introduction of new products and complex product changes, ensuring that all aspects of a program, project or system are considered and integrated.
  • Provide hardware systems safety and compliance support in conjunction with cross functional process eg HAZREP
  • Working with sector and business units and functions, develop and maintain Engineering toolset and strategic roadmaps
  • Ensure optimized integration of HW Eng tools and processes into corporate systems (Eg SAP).
  • Simplify, update and maintain departmental processes in compliance with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 etc. and support associated internal and external audits.
  • Support integration and collaboration of tools and resources across CAS and beyond.
  • Drive departmental continuous improvement initiatives, applying techniques such as lean and six sigma where appropriate to increase productivity, eliminate non-value add activities and reduce cost of non-quality.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, able to lead and network with internal and external stakeholders
  • Change Management and Toolset development and implementation for large engineering teams, across multiple sites, and wider business integration
  • Development and justification of business cases and focused approach to delivery on target to cost, quality and schedule goals
  • Systematic, data driven, innovative and proactive approach to strategy and projects
  • Ability to travel to all sites globally within the portfolio

  

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • Degree Level Qualification in appropriate subject (manufacturing/engineering/science)
  • Solid experience in technical engineering roles (desirable experience of operating in a cross functional and matrix organisation working)
  • Solid experience in aviation/aerospace environment and aircraft systems desirable
  • Experience of best practice engineering / business system toolset development and rollout
  • Excellent Computer literacy: CAD / PLM / ERP / MRP in manufacturing environment

Organisational relationships:

Reports to:      Manager, Hardware Engineering; Functional reporting into sector engineering

Manages:        Project Engineers or Specialists assigned to project teams
