Simulator Maintenance Engineer (FTC)

Reports to: Head of Training Services

Overview: You will be a team member responsible for the maintenance and support of a range of Full Flight Simulators and Lower Level training devices.(FSTD’s) Act as a point of contact to the user/customer community for both technical and logistics issues. Undertake all duties as a member of the maintenance team providing a turnkey service. Perform any tasks related to maintaining the simulator qualification standard. ‘Meet and greet’ flight crews and instructors at the Training Centre entrance and issue the relevant security passes, as and when required.

Core responsibilities will involve, but not be limited to:

  • This role requires a considerable amount of Customer contact as well as interfacing to the relevant Training Services development / design engineers.
  • Be main point of contact for any issues whilst on shift
  • Provide knowledge and interface to the company production systems and staff.
  • Provide ‘Advice and Assistance’ in all areas of the maintenance and support of the simulator to ensure maximum available training time is achieved.
  • Troubleshooting and resolution of issues
  • Perform / support scheduled simulator maintenance routines
  • Diagnose and repair of simulator hardware faults
  • System set up & pre-flight checks
  • Assistance with annual re-certification activities
  • Perform functions relative to maintaining Aircraft and Simulator software
  • Spares management
  • Actively monitor and record Usage, Reliability and Maintainability of the and provide monthly reports for FSTD’s via Electronic Maintenance and reporting software
  • Maintenance of the Simulator Software Configuration Management System
  • Brief and de-brief instructors


Essential skills and experience:

  • Flexibility and ability to think out of the box (Essential)
  • Act on own initiative (Essential)
  • Develop or possess knowledge of both A320 and B737 series aircraft systems and ability to interpret aircraft, engineering and electronic diagrams. (Desirable)
  • Previous FSTD experience (Desirable)
  • Customer service experience. (Desirable)
  • IT Literate with MS Office (Essential)
  • UNIX/LINUX and installation of software packages (Desirable)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills (Essential)

Qualification and educational requirements:

  • Educated to a minimum BTEC/HTEC, HND/HNC level or equivalent relevant qualification /experience
  • Proven electrical, electronic and mechanical theoretical knowledge supplemented with practical experience.
