17 years of age at the date of application.
NCEA Level 3 (or equivalent) with at least 14 Credits (at Level 3) for each of the following:
Or:
A Trade Qualification (at a minimum of Level 4)
Or:
A PPL Theory Credit (six examinations) obtained within an 8 week period, with a maximum of two fails.
Hold an unrestricted NZ CAA Class 1 Medical Certificate prior to commencement of training (endorsements and/or restrictions will be assessed on a case by case basis)
Have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
Be fluent in English (verbal and written)*.
Consent to a criminal record check.
In support of your application you will need to provide a criminal record and driving record which can take up to 8 weeks to obtain. Your medical is due prior to commencement of training, however for information on the requirements of obtaining a New Zealand CAA class 1 medical please refer to http://www.caa.govt.nz/medical/medical-home/.
For non-native English speakers, you will be required to present a certificate prior to training commencement demonstrating you have achieved International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or an equivalent of at Level 5.5 overall, with no less than 5.5 in any individual area (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking). This must be the Academic test, not General Training.
Any non-native English speakers will need to undertake an assessment at a CAA approved ELP Testing Organisation (see CAA Standards Document No. 31) for a formal assessment of their English language Proficiency level prior to license issue.
